Abilition 2000

Abolition 2000 is a network of over 2000 organizations in more than 90 countries worldwide working for a global treaty to eliminate nuclear weapons. Currently, 13 Working Groups are active within Abolition 2000.

One of them, the Citizens Inspections Working Group, "seeks to expose the hypocrisy and the use of double standards by some NPT member states who condemn countries for possessing or trying to develop weapons of mass destruction(WMD) while they develop new lethal WMD and do nothing to honor their treaty obligations for disarmament." Abolition 2000 encourages groups globally to conduct Citizens Inspections of all the nuclear sites around the world in preparation for an NGO report to be presented to the Non-Proliferation Treaty delegates in New York during the weeks of April 26 to May 7, 2004. For more information, go to www.motherearth.org. To join the Abolition 2000 Citizens Inspections Working Group, write to Abolition-CIWG-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

During the NPT meeting 2004, Abolition 2000 together with other organizations plans to hold a rally in support of the call for complete nuclear disarmament on Saturday, May 1. On Sunday, the annual Abolition 2000 membership meeting will be held. See www.abolition2000.org.
